The Business Advisor will provide professional business and management advising in the areas of general business and accounting to existing or start-up small businesses for the Small Business Development Center.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Performance Requirements*
- Facilitates and supports business clients in a learning environment by identifying their business needs and providing them with the tools and resources needed to assist them in building their business and improving their desired business growth
- Engages in routine meetings to identify new opportunities and tools to assist them in developing a strategic plan of growth in addition to creating and implementing change plans in partnership with program leadership
- Collaborates with staff to achieve client satisfaction and meet organizational goals
- Meets with strategic partners, including municipalities, for-profit and nonprofit organizations with an exclusive focus on improving Tarrant County community efforts
- Tracks and records the progress of business clients to ensure their completion of the business plan deliverables, and capital acquisitions and ensure the program is being followed to achieve successful completion
- Develops projects to meet the needs of the client including the preparation of reports and recommendations for overall projects and related activities
- Conducts outreach presentations and workshops to facilitate group learning and ensure the client understands the benefit of utility tools and resources that are available
- Uses all available modes of communication and selects the most appropriate mode according to the audience, project, or issue and level of confidentiality
Service Excellence
- Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements
- Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
- Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College (TCC) Institute
- Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, and creativity and service to the College
- Supports the mission, values and 3 goals and 8 principles of the College

Required Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Five (5) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in strategic project planning, business development, and capital acquisition
- Bilingual in verbal and written English and Spanish
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of obtaining and documenting business requirements and support methodologies
- Knowledge of economic or entrepreneurial development, business ownership and management
- Knowledge of federal, state, local and other funding sources
- Skill in financial analysis and creating workable solutions
- Skill in establishing solid business relationships in local economic development, community, or business context
- Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with diverse populations, including listening and verbal and written communication
- Skilled using applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
- Ability to employ a business case management approach for advising participants on all aspects of the program
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse and urban
- Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
- Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, showing strong attention to detail
